Accumulation of fat in liver to more than 5 – 10 % of the total liver composition is known as fatty liver. Liver is the center of metabolism of the food we eat. Fatty liver occurs when there is excess production of fat cells and it may not necessarily be a result of increased fat consumption.
There are two types of fatty liver namely, Alcoholic fatty liver disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. In both these cases, there occurs deposition of fat in the liver cells making it fatty.

While alcohol consumption is a major factor for the development of this conditions, there are other problems that also result in steatosis.

DIAGNOSING OF FATTY LIVER
While there are no suggestive symptoms in general, the patient usually complains of fatigue, loss of appetite, yellow pigmentation of the skin etc. Confirmatory diagnosis is only achieved through blood tests and ultrasonography.
Although fatty liver is a very mild disorder that goes away by itself with dietary and lifestyle modifications. Most of the times it remains harmless without causing any damage to the person.
In patients of serious disorders, regular monitoring of the liver may be required.
