Cola is one of the most popular beverages among the world. People consume it because of its sweet 
and addictive nature. But do you know what happens when you take cola and what it does to your body? 
Cola is listed as one of the worst beverages to swallow due to its high sugar content. This further implies 
that it is rich in caffeine content which is not good for your body.


Here is how cola and other soft drinks affects you:


First 10 minutes:
When you first take cola the sugar content is what enters your stream. Not just one teaspoon but 
ten teaspoons! When you take 10 spoons of sugar in reality, you end up puking. But you do not because the phosphoric acid cuts off the flavor thus keeping it down.


After 20 minutes
After 20 minutes, the blood sugar reaches the point at which it causes an insulin burst. When this 
fluid enters the liver, the liver turns it into fat from the sugar that has now entered the system.

After 40 minutes
After 40 minutes, the absorption of caffeine is now completed. Your pupils will dilate as your 
blood sugar rises. This is a response reaction which makes the liver generate and dump more fat 
and sugar into the bloodstream. The adenosine receptors that are present in the brain are also blocked which prevents the effect of drowsiness.


After 45 minutes
Dopamine is the happy hormone that is produces by the brain. When you consume cola, the dopamine 
levels tend to increase. This triggers the area in your brain that is responsible for the sense of pleasure, 
for these centers are activated. The drug heroin also works in a similar way.


After 1 hour
The phosphoric acids present will bind the calcium, magnesium and the zinc in your lower intestine. 
This provides a boost in the metabolism of your body. Not just that, this is also compounded by a 
high dose of sugar. The artificial sweeteners that are present will also cause the urinary system to 
excrete calcium when it must excrete nitrogenous wastes.
The diuretic properties that are present in caffeine are also responsible for making you go to the 
bathroom a lot of times. This will make sure that all the contents and the electrolytes of zinc and 
magnesium are thrown away.
All this is followed by a caffeine crash that takes place in the next few hours. Therefore, it is important 
to take cola in moderate amount to avoid the harsh effects due to excessive sugar, phosphoric acid 
and caffeine.
So we have learnt how cola affects are entire system, not just our body, but also the most vital organ 
the liver and the brain.

Foods That Help You Quit Smoking


So your endless efforts to quit smoking are not working? How about trying some foods that might help 
you get rid of this deadly habit? We know it is not as easy as it sounds but there are some fruits and 
vegetables that might be of some help. The trick is to make the right choices of food when you finally 
plan to quit.

Each year one in every five deaths in the US is caused by smoking. Also there are almost 8.6 million 
people who are suffering from some serious illnesses caused by smoking. It has been estimated by 
CDC (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention) that an adult male who smokes may lose 13.2 years 
of his life on average and a female smoker may lose 14.5 years.

There are about 4800 chemicals contained in a cigarette out of which 69 can cause cancer. Whereas, 
secondhand smoke comprises of 7000 chemicals out of which 70 are known as cancer-causing. 
So smoking is not only lethal for the smoker himself but also for the people being exposed to 
the secondhand smoke. Smoking causes lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, emphysema and also 
cause fertility problems.

A study conducted by Duke University claims that making the right choices of food may aid you in 
getting rid of this habit. The remedy lies in fresh fruits, vegetables, non carbonated beverages and 
dairy products. It has been hypothesized that selecting these foods may alter the production of the 
saliva and also temporarily make changes to the taste buds, making cigarettes less palatable.

The University of Buffalo also conducted similar researches, that is fruits and vegetables can help 
quit smoking. Their studies revealed that people consuming fruits and vegetables were 3 times more 
likely to quit smoking than the smokers who didn’t eat much of the fruits and vegetables. 
Jeffrey Haibach, M.P.H, lead author of the study says, “Cravings for cigarettes and foods are 
closely linked and often confused with one another,” he adds that, “By eating a diet with higher 
fiber content, you’ll feel fuller and avoid craving confusion.”

Joseph McClernon, Ph.D., director of the Tobacco Neuroscience Research Lab at Duke University 
also states that fruits and vegetables can worsen the taste of the cigarettes.

So here we are with the list of foods that can work for smoking quitters:

Milk
According to the research conducted at the Duke University, milk can help to reduce the craving for 
cigarettes. The researchers claim that milk leaves a strange aftertaste in the mouth of the smokers 
that make them repel from smoking. Also the high contents of protein found in milk are beneficial in
providing extra energy when you feel down because of the craving for nicotine. So whenever you feel 
the urge for cigarettes just take a sip of milk. Yogurt or a piece of cheese is equally good and can be 
consumed instead of milk to help you quit.

Carrots
James A. Duke, PhD. Botanist at the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, in Maryland, says, 
“If cigarettes are cancer sticks, carrots are anticancer sticks”. His own routine was 3 packs of 
cigarettes per day. He claims that carrots played a vital role in helping him quit smoking. 
The component called caroteniods found in carrots not only helps you quit smoking but also saves 
you from cancer. Buy yourself a bunch of baby carrots and whenever you carve for a cigarette 
munch on a these fresh raw carrots.

Sunflower Seeds
Researchers claim that sunflower seeds have the same effect on your mind as tobacco, i.e. 
they increase the production of adrenaline. Sunflower seeds not only have a calming effect on 
your mind but also contain essential B-complex vitamins that help in the nourishment of the nervous 
system. They are a good option for smoking quitters but overeating is not suggested as they contain 
high contents of fats. Choose the one with shells so that the consumption process can take time.

Bananas
Recent studies have found that banana can help quit smoking. The most common problem faced by 
the smoking quitters is that they feel lack of energy and stressed out. The friendly bananas, full of 
essential vitamins and minerals, can boost your energy and calm you down in stressful conditions 
caused by nicotine cravings. Whenever you feel the urge to smoke, kill it by eating a banana.

Marjoram tea
Marjoram is an aromatic herb commonly found in the Mediterranean countries. Its tea can be very 
effective for those who want to quit smoking. It makes the throat dry as a result smoking becomes less 
pleasurable. All you need to do is, boil 1 teaspoon of marjoram tea in a cup of water for 15 minutes. 
Whenever you feel the craving you can consume this tea. This herb is easily available at all health food stores.

Cloves
Cloves do not completely help you quit smoking but may help you limit the quantity of cigarettes you smoke. Whenever you smoke your first cigarette of the day, suck on a small clove, this will leave the taste of 
nicotine in your mouth for a long time and will reduce the urge for another cigarette.

All the above mentioned foods can help you quit smoking but also keep in mind that there are some foods 
that can actually aggravate your craving for smoke. According to the research conducted at the
Duke University, when you plan to quit smoking, avoid taking meat, alcoholic beverages and coffee
because these foods make cigarettes taste better.

Dr. David Samadi states “Prior research shows a link between the benefits of sex and prostate cancer. But a new study, with long term follow up, adds to the evidence that ejaculation frequency, is the key factor in reducing prostate cancer risk.”

According to a new study, increased ejaculation is strongly linked with a lower risk for prostate cancer in men. According to world renowned prostate cancer surgeon, Dr. David Samadi at Lenox Hill Hospital, “Prior research shows a link between the benefits of sex and prostate cancer. But this new study, with long term follow up, adds to the evidence that ejaculation frequency, is the key factor in reducing prostate cancer risk.”
Researchers claim that sex, or frequency of ejaculation may be a modifiable risk factor for prostate cancer, with more sex having the effect of reducing a man’s risk for prostate cancer. "Aside from the potential cancer benefits, sex also provides a number of health benefits such as a boost in your immunity, better sleep, and can even protect against heart disease" states Dr. Samadi.
The study was carried out by scientists at the Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women Hospital. What they found was that “ejaculation frequency may be inversely related to the risk of prostate cancer, a disease for which few modifiable risk factors have been identified." The study data tracked about 32,000 men, who were surveyed to find out the frequency of ejaculations between 1992 and 2010. Men who ejaculated 21 times or more each month were about 20 percent less likely to receive a prostate cancer diagnosis than those who only climaxed less than 10 times a month. As for how men achieved ejaculation, it is not a requirement to have a sex partner. Whether it be sexual intercourse, nocturnal emission, or masturbation, all are beneficial.
In Dr. David Samadi's opinion, "these findings provide additional evidence of a beneficial role of more frequent ejaculation throughout adult life in the etiology of prostate cancer, particularly for low-risk disease". It is encouraging that men with higher ejaculatory rates have been seen to have lower risk of prostate cancer long term, as there are not many modifiable risks for prostate cancer.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prostate cancer is most common cancer among men (other than skin cancer) in the United States. According to the World Cancer Research Fund International, in 2012, there were more than 1.1 million cases of prostate cancer. This makes prostate cancer accountable for 8 percent of all new cancer cases, and 15 percent of cancers in men. 
  • It is estimated that in 2016 in the United States, there will be about 180,890 new cases of prostate cancer
  • About 26,120 deaths from prostate cancer
  • About 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime
  • About 1 in 39 men will die of prostate cancer.
  • About 6 cases in 10 are diagnosed in men aged 65 or older
  • The average age at the time of diagnosis is about 66
  • About 2.9 million men living with prostate cancer in the US today 
Question: For health sake, should people (especially men) in prison be allowed to have sex at least 3 times a week!!!
